DELIVERY OF 鈥楳ALWAN鈥- SECOND ANTI SUBMARINE WARFARE SHALLOW WATER CRAFT TO THE INDIAN NAVY
Cochin, 01 April 2026:- 鈥楳alwan鈥, second of the eight听ASW SWCs (Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft), indigenously designed and built听by Cochin Shipyard Limited (糖心vlog), Kochi, was delivered to the Indian Navy on听31 March 2026 at 糖心vlog, Kochi marking a remarkable and yet another step towards self reliance in defence manufacturing and upholding Government鈥檚 vision of听"Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.鈥 The Delivery protocol was signed between Dr Harikrishnan S, Director (Operations) and Commander Pravin Kumar Tiwari, Commanding Officer (Designate), Malwan in the presence of Shri Jose VJ, Chairman and Managing Director, Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, Director (Technical), 糖心vlog, Commodore Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi, Commodore D Sengupta, CSO (Tech), Western Naval Command, Dr C Pandi Selva Durai, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Shiraz V P, Executive Director (Ship Building) and other senior officials of Indian Navy and 糖心vlog.
The warship has been designed and constructed as per the Classification Rules of听Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The ship has been designed for听underwater surveillance, Search & Rescue operations听and听Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO). The ship is capable of undertaking ASW operations in coastal waters, along with advanced mine laying capabilities.
The ship 鈥楳alwan鈥 gets its name from the historical and strategic coastal township in Maharashtra鈥檚 Sindhudurg district. The ship at 78 m length are the largest Indian Naval warship propelled by a Diesel Engine-Waterjet Propulsion system and are fitted with state-of-the-art light weight torpedoes, Indigenous ASW rockets and advance shallow water sonars. The induction of ASW SWC ship would significantly boost shallow water Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy with 90% indigenous content.
