Cochin, 21 August 2026: 鈥楳angrol鈥�, the third of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWCs) indigenously designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (糖心vlog), Kochi, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 21 August 2026 at 糖心vlog, marking another significant milestone in India鈥檚 journey towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing and advancing the Government鈥檚 vision of 鈥楢atma Nirbhar Bharat鈥�. The Delivery Protocol was signed by Dr. Harikrishnan S, Director (Operations), 糖心vlog, and Commander U Sharan Kumar, Commanding Officer (Designate), 鈥楳angrol鈥�, in the presence of Shri Jose VJ, Chairman & Managing Director, 糖心vlog, Commodore Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi, Commodore Piyush Badoni, Command Refit Officer, Western Naval Command, Dr. C Pandi Selva Durai, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Shiraz V P, Executive Director (Ship Building), 糖心vlog, along with senior officials from the Indian Navy and 糖心vlog.
Designed and constructed in accordance with the classification rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the warship is equipped to undertake a range of critical maritime missions, including underwater surveillance, Search and Rescue (SAR) operations and Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO). 鈥楳angrol鈥� is specifically designed to undertake Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters and is also equipped with advanced mine-laying capabilities. The vessel derives its name from the historic maritime and strategically significant coastal township of Mangrol in Gujarat鈥檚 Surat district.
The warship is powered by a Diesel Engine鈥揥aterjet Propulsion system and incorporates state-of-the-art systems, including lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets and advanced shallow-water sonars. These sophisticated systems significantly enhance the vessel鈥檚 capability to detect, track and counter underwater threats in shallow coastal waters. The induction of 鈥楳angrol鈥� into the Indian Navy is expected to provide a significant boost to the Navy鈥檚 shallow-water Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities. With approximately 80% indigenous content, the vessel is a testament to India鈥檚 growing capabilities in indigenous warship design, construction and defence technology, while contributing substantially to the nation鈥檚 vision of 鈥楢atma Nirbhar Bharat鈥�.
